What to Expect
Coming into counseling can be a scary and intimidating step in life. I want to lessen any anxiety you may have. What I do is considered “talk therapy” where you and I will sit and talk a about your concerns/goals/directions.
Therapy is confidential and I provide a warm and compassionate atmosphere. My goal is to establish a mutual working relationship. In our work together you are the “expert” on your life and I help you discover and accomplish your goals.
The first step is to call or email me to set up an appointment. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation for you to see if we are a good fit.
Sessions are 50 minutes and will be dedicated as “your time” at the same day and time of the week unless otherwise specified. I do offer a few bi-weekly sessions, meaning we will only meet twice a month instead of weekly. The first session will consist of us getting to know each other and discussing the reason(s) for your interest in counseling. The second and following sessions can pick up with where we left off. We can discuss something new that has occurred, or just generally be anything you want to talk about, but always building on previous sessions and tying into what we have discussed and any work you have done.
The length of therapy is up to you; it can be only a few sessions to sometimes years, depending on what we are working on and how you feel about terminating counseling because you have met your goals/needs.
I invite questions and you are more than welcome to ask any about the process or what to expect now, as well as later in session.
